Gallery Opening for In Plain View: 18 Plain Dealer Photojournalists

On Friday, June 6th the Heights Arts Gallery will have an opening for an exhibit by 18 photojournalists from the Plain Dealer. Workshops will be presented by photographers Helen Liggett and Greg Donley on the last 4 Wednesday evenings in July.

Photography Opening Reception for RockeT (aka McKinley Wiley)


Join photographer McKinley Wiley, who goes by the name RockeT, for a reception that opens a display of his work photographing spoken word artists on Tuesday, July 1st.

Those of you who frequent the downtown location of Dodd Camera my recognize McKinley as one of the salespeople. 20th Annual Blossom Time Balloon Festival is This Weekend

The Chagrin Valley Jaycees are once again presenting the Chagrin Blossom Time Balloon Festival as part of its Memorial Day activities. The hot air balloon festival will started today with the "Blossom Glow" where almost a dozen balloons were inflated. Activities will continue over the Memorial Day holiday weekend with balloons being launched and/or landing each day.

This is another great opportunity to take pictures.

Summer Photography Classes Begin May 28, 2008

The Cleveland Photographic Society is accepting enrollments for its
Summer schedule of Photography programs. Reserve your seats now for:
  • Intro to Digital Photo Editing - beginning May 28, 2008
  • Fundamentals of Good Photography - beginning June 7, 2008
  • Basic Digital Photography - beginning June 9, 2008
I took the Digital Photo Editing class over a year ago and found it to be very worthwhile. In that class you learn how to use Adobe Photoshop Elements.

Veterans Memorial Bridge Tour Saturday, May 24th

The Veterans Memorial Bridge, formerly known as the Detroit Superior Bridge, is open for tours four times a year. On Saturday, May 24th you can tour the lower deck of the bridge. This area is normally closed to the public. If you miss this date, there will be two more this year, Saturday, July 5, 2008 and Saturday, August 30, 2008.

During the tour, you can walk the lower deck of the bridge, take pictures, and learn more about the history of the bridge. The bridge's lower deck was where the street cars ran. It has been closed to the public since 1954 when the street car service was discontinued.

Time: Saturday, May 24th, 9-3 p.m.

Location: Northeast Corner of W. 25th Street & Detroit Avenue, at the west end of the bridge.
FREE parking is available at the County Engineer’s Bridge Garage, which is located at the tour’s entrance.

This Thursday's meeting will focus on Flickr.com, the online photosharing site. We'll discuss why you would want to use Flickr to share your photos and what you can do on the site. You'll learn how to get visibility for your work and how to learn from the vast network of photographers who put their work on Flickr. Bring your questions. Charles Burkett will do the presentation.
